Evidence with context

Clear about capability—and limitations

Water level, tides, season, wind, sea state, sun glint, canopy, water depth, turbidity and clarity can affect what is visible and whether survey periods are comparable. Aerial and underwater imagery do not replace fit-for-purpose aquatic sampling, hydrological measurement, bathymetric or geomorphic assessment, or specialist species and habitat identification. Underwater work remains subject to project scope, dive planning, conditions, safety requirements and the limits of the relevant ADAS qualification.

Planning the work

Can repeat imagery measure bank or shoreline change?

It can support change assessment when capture geometry, accuracy, timing and environmental conditions are suitable. The required confidence and scale should be agreed before monitoring begins.

Can TALONYX assist with underwater surveys?

Yes. TALONYX holds ADAS commercial-diving qualifications and can support appropriately planned underwater imagery, observations, transects and condition documentation. The scope depends on dive conditions, safety requirements, qualification limits and the survey design or interpretation required from aquatic or marine specialists.

Can aerial surveys detect marine animals?

They may detect observable near-surface animals such as dugongs, marine turtles, rays, sharks or larger fish when water clarity, depth, sea state, glare and animal behaviour are favourable. A non-detection is not evidence of absence, and specialist survey design and interpretation may be required.

Can TALONYX work as a subcontractor?

Yes. We can work directly with a client or discreetly within an environmental consultancy or project team. Scope, branding, data custody and communication responsibilities can be agreed before mobilisation.

What information is needed for a quote?

A site location or boundary, the project question, timing, intended outputs, access constraints and any relevant survey, approval, treatment or reporting requirements.

Can outputs be supplied for GIS and reporting workflows?

Yes. Deliverables can be prepared for integration with project GIS, consultant analysis and reporting. Formats, coordinate reference systems, metadata and naming conventions are agreed at scoping.

Does TALONYX use AI or automated analysis?

Where it is suitable, automation and AI-assisted methods may help classify observations, identify patterns or accelerate quality checks. They are treated as analytical tools rather than conclusions: outputs remain subject to fit-for-purpose methods, source-data review, validation, documented limitations and human accountability.
